Statement (English)

Always looking for structures…, I am a (re)searcher by nature.
The way my work is created is an organic process. I use photography to document my impressions. Those impressions are translated into forms and shapes. My paintings then are a further abstraction of those forms and shapes.
My installations are created out of the items I keep in my studio. I have combined in their construction paintings, found objects, photographs and pieces of wood.
I also recycle installations. Taking them apart and reusing the pieces, on their own or as a part of a new work.
This creative process is not necessarily chronological; sometimes my photographic impressions emerge from existing works, objects, paintings or collages.
I prefer to work with ‘natural’ materials such as wood, paper, textiles, plants, but also enjoy finding new uses for old things such as rusted metals. Very important to me is the appeal of wear and tear in objects and the visible history this implies and imparts to my work.
I find my materials during urban walks, on beaches, in forests or other surroundings, there where I live and work or travelling abroad.

Statement (Nederlands)

Van nature ben ik een onderzoeker, op zoek naar structuren.
Mijn werkwijze is een organisch proces. In foto’s leg ik indrukken vast. Deze indrukken worden in ruimtelijk werk vertaald tot een vorm. Mijn schilderijen zijn een verdere abstractie van deze vormen. Installaties bouw ik op vanuit “vondsten” uit mijn atelier. Deze kunnen schilderijen, objecten, bewerkte stukken hout, papier of foto’s zijn. Installaties kunnen ook weer uit elkaar genomen en hergebruikt worden.
Het proces is niet perse chronologisch. Delen ontstaan ook tegelijkertijd. Soms maak ik een foto en is het beeld herleidbaar tot een eerder gemaakt object of collage.
Mijn voorkeur gaat uit naar natuurlijke materialen: papier, hout, textiel, botten en planten en soms metaal.
De meeste materialen vind ik tijdens mijn reizen of gewoon op straat, tijdens wandelingen in het bos of op het strand.
In de uitstraling van al het materiaal is de indruk van verval, verweerdheid, een achterliggende historie belangrijk.
